This tree/shrub is widely spread throughout the tropical regions of the world. Popular evergreen, with a widely spreading habit and smooth grey bark on a gnarled picturesque trunk. Rounded, smooth, leathery green leaves up to 150mm long, are hairy underneath. Fast growing. Ideal tree for coastal suburbs. Striking yellow flowers appear in summer, which turn to dull red before falling away. Both roots and flowers are said to have medicinal value.

Best suited for:
Relatively hardy, they are salt tolerant and drought resistant, but frost tender when young.
